Salah and Gakpo Shine as Reds Extend Unbeaten Run
2-0 Victory at Anfield Extends Lead at the Top
Liverpool extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 matches with a 2-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half with a clinical finish, before Cody Gakpo sealed the victory with a header in the second period.
The win moves Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Manchester City. Everton, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone.
The match was played in front of a raucous crowd at Anfield, with both sets of fans creating a passionate atmosphere.
Liverpool dominated the first half and took the lead in the 36th minute. Salah was played through on goal by Darwin Nunez and the Egyptian coolly slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford.
Everton improved in the second half, but Liverpool remained in control and doubled their lead in the 77th minute.
Gakpo was on hand to head home a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold, sealing the victory for the Reds.
Liverpool will now travel to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, while Everton will host Southampton.
