Dubai International Airport Diverts Flights Amidst Unprecedented Rainfall

Heavy Rains Lash United Arab Emirates, Causing Widespread Flooding

Record Inundation Affects Surrounding Areas

Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, has diverted numerous incoming flights as torrential rainfall continues to batter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and neighboring regions.

The heavy downpours, which commenced on March 8, 2024, have resulted in severe flooding across Dubai and other emirates. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has recorded unprecedented rain levels, with six hours of rainfall equaling what would typically accrue over a year.

The precipitation has caused widespread disruption to daily life in Dubai. Streets have been submerged, forcing the suspension of public transportation and leaving motorists stranded in their vehicles. Rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate residents from flooded areas.

Other parts of the UAE have also been impacted by the torrential rains. In Abu Dhabi, the capital emirate, schools have been closed due to flooding. Roads have been rendered impassable in Sharjah and Fujairah.

The heavy rains are expected to persist in the coming days, with the NCM issuing warnings of additional flooding. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
